Pastoral Care

Lourdes Hill College aims to provide a safe, caring and supportive environment that is responsible for the needs of our students academically, physically, emotionally, socially, spiritually and pastorally. Benedictine Spirituality and Good Samaritan Values are the foundation of our pastoral care approach as addressed in our Mission Statement. Pastoral care permeates all areas of our college. All members of our school community are valued, respected and encouraged to realise their full potential.

All staff place the welfare and wellbeing of students as a priority. The Leadership Team, Assistant Principal - Students, House Coordinators, Home Group teachers and teaching staff form an integral part of the pastoral structure. Lourdes Hill College offers an experienced guidance and counselling team who are available to support students and families regarding emotional, educational, spiritual, career and social issues.

Pastoral care of students is evident through the College's daily operations, curriculum, House system, policies and co-curricular activities. The pastoral care structure incorporates the following:

  • House Structure and Home Groups - foster a sense of community and support for students, staff and parents, creating a sense of belonging, spirit, enthusiasm and connectedness for student growth and development. This feeling of community and belonging is very important at Lourdes Hill College as it allows students to feel connected, enjoy learning and be engaged in activities and challenged.
  • National Safe Schools Program - provide a physical setting that is safe, well organised and caring. Values of respect, tolerance and inclusion are promoted throughout the College.
  • Health Promoting Schools (HPS) Framework - designed to encourage students to lead healthier and more active lives. Lourdes Hill College is a health promoting school with a student/teacher HPS Committee.
  • Student Leadership Programs - the Student and House Councils provide leadership opportunities for students of all year levels. The Councils work on chosen initiatives to enhance the College climate, ethos and environment.
  • Co-curricular Program - allows students to develop skills and be part of a group e.g. Sport, Music, Drama, Debating, ICT and Service Groups.
  • Service Groups - promotes using one's gifts in service of others out of love for God.
  • Big Sister/ Little Sister programme - enables meaningful connection between both incoming and graduating students.
  • Wellbeing (WEB) - year 8-10 program that includes health promotion issues e.g. drug and alcohol education, emotional resilience, body image, stress management and physical activity programs.
  • Minds Our Business (MOB) - middle school initiative for Dimensions of Learning/ Habits of Mind in order to further develop higher order thinking skills.
