Year 7 Duke of Edinburgh Students Conquer Mt Coot-tha - 14 September 2018
Ten Year 7 students enjoyed the beautiful Spring weather on Sunday 9 September as they participated in their first Duke of Edinburgh hike. Full of energy, they hiked to the Mt Coot-tha lookout in record time. After enjoying the view, a morning tea break and some time to learn the basics with the map and compass, they set off on the slightly more technical part of the hike, twisting and turning their way down the mountain along a variety of trails. They took turns to lead the expedition, learning how to track how far they had walked and to calculate the direction they were heading.

The girls had a lot of fun in the outdoors and learnt to work as a team and to be aware of their surroundings. There was a lot of encouragement as we conquered some big hills and it was a very positive morning. Suffice to say everyone was very tired at the end of the 10km hike!
