Lily Wins Poetry Award - 23 October 2018

Congratulations to Lily Rout who was declared a winner in the 2018 Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Awards. Lily entered an original poem entitled ‘Loneliness’ and was judged against students from Years 7-12 from all over Australia.  The judges commented: “We receive a lot of poems that deal with bullying, across all categories. This is one of the most honest and powerful of all.”

As part of her prize, Lily had the opportunity to travel to Gunnedah in NSW for the National Presentation Ceremony, where she delivered her poem to an audience and met with several established authors, some of whom have offered to mentor her in the future. Lily’s poem will also be published in an anthology along with the other winners. This anthology will soon be available in the Library so that other students can read Lily’s work and will hopefully be inspired to write their own poetry!
