Mirragin Moments: Summer School Success - 21 February 2019

During the January school holidays, Year 11 Mirragin student, Erica Accoom, attended the National Indigenous Business Summer School, held this year at the University of NSW in Sydney.  The purpose of the program was to provide an immersive experience for students thinking of entering the business world or exploring a career as an entrepreneur.

The “business boot camp” ran for five days and Erica lived on campus at the University.

As well as meeting and interacting with Indigenous people working in the industry and receiving invaluable mentoring, all students took part in pitching a business idea to help improve conditions in remote Indigenous communities. Erica’s team centred their business idea on bush medicine, which would not only provide employment but also encourage the passing on of cultural knowledge and practices.

Their hard work was rewarded with the Dean’s award for best pitch, presented at the celebration dinner which marked the end of the conference.

Congratulations Erica on a fantastic summer school experience.
