A Good Samaritan School For Girls

Compassion Prayer Community

education

Bishop Polding, in the tradition of St. Benedict, describes Christian education as "not training in mere knowledge" but a total process in which everything about the school, the teachers and all the activities of the day, is directed towards the full human and spiritual development of each individual student.

This Good Samaritan Education philosophy is manifested in a curriculum which caters for individual differences. It offers a broad range of subjects, teaching styles and assists all students to realise their potential through the pursuit of academic excellence and personal fulfilment.

Lourdes Hill has a proud record of outstanding academic achievement and high levels of tertiary entrance by students. In addition the curriculum provides for traineeships and other opportunities in vocational education within a multiple pathways framework. Processes are in place to respond to the curriculum and assessment of students with identified special learning needs and an enrichment dimension is integral to all learning programs in order to meet the needs of students across the complete educational spectrum.

The Lourdes Hill College Learning Framework embodies a learner-centred approach to education in which students understand their strengths and weaknesses as learners and feel empowered to become life-long learners. Student learning experiences are designed to help integrate and refine new knowledge by comparing, contrasting, inducing, deducing and analysing and to be used meaningfully for informed decision making and for critical, creative and futuristic thinking and problem solving. In 2010 we introduced a 1 to 1 tablet PC program to nurture a strong digital learning environment. Regular feedback is given to students and parents in order to provide information on student progress. The College is to committed educating young women in a constantly changing world. The curriculum reflects both traditional and contemporary aspects and its design takes into account current educational trends and societal issues such as changing employment patterns, technological advances and adolescent development. State and national curriculum requirements are integrated into learning programs as required.
