digital learning
Lourdes Hill College endeavours to incorporate digital technologies into all areas of the learning experience. At the commencement of 2010 Lourdes Hill College embarked on the next stage of their technology journey with the roll out of tablet PC's to all year 9 students. This technology allows students constant access to learning facilities, both at home and at school, making organisation, study and access to e-learning resources just a touch away.
Successful usage and implementation includes initiatives in e-learning and m-learning integrating the flexible features a tablet offers. A few examples of the initiatives at Lourdes Hill College include:
- On-line learning in a global environment
- The use of Auto Cad in the graphics classroom
- Integration of robotics into the Information Technology program
- Extensive use of digital image manipulation and analysis in the areas of drama, art and Physical Education
- Electronic data probes to collect real time information within the science faculty
- Enhanced understanding of mathematics through the use of graphics calculators across all year levels
- Use of electronic whiteboards to engage students in the learning process
- Electronic communication and information sharing promoting higher order thinking through a learning management system
Lourdes Hill College is continuously developing programs to allow for seamless incorporation of technology into all areas of the curriculum, embracing the digital learning opportunities offered by a constantly changing world. The e-learning opportunities offered through the use of a tablet mean that learning experiences cater to a diverse range of learning styles allowing students to communicate their understanding through individualised planning, presentation and reflection. The m-learning opportunities mean that learning is no longer confined to the physical space of the classroom and the time the lesson has been allocated.
