A Good Samaritan School For Girls

Compassion Stewardship Community

high achieving students

The College has a middle management position specifically designed to mentor and support those students who demonstrate academic achievement at a very high level. This role, The Coordinator of High Achieving Students, manages the High Achieving Students Program (HAS) which is designed to provide a dedicated point of contact for pastoral care to support students' continuing efforts to maximise their potential and aim for excellence in their studies.

The High Achieving Students Program includes:

  • the opportunity for students to meet as part of a year group or individually with the Coordinator of High Achieving Students
  • on-going monitoring of academic results
  • recognition of academic accomplishments
  • inclusion in specialised sessions and/or nomination for co-curricula extension opportunities offered through the various subject departments.

At Lourdes Hill College we consider the Ganges definition for identifying high achievers. Students may be gifted with natural ability whereas talents are what a student develops when they are mentored and encouraged by teachers and parents to achieve at a high level. The College's Dimensions Of Learning (DOL) framework forms the basis of how our school supports our high achieving students. The Coordinator of High Achieving Students works in partnership with Heads of Department to strengthen whole-school, shared ownership of provision for the needs of high achieving students to promote a culture of academic excellence. Departments may offer: selective curriculum compacting; selective advanced classes; student mentoring; opportunities for co-curricula competitions or involvement in clubs; and Service Learning.

Laptop Program

The 1-to-1 Laptop program at Lourdes Hill College involves each Year 9 student being provided with a Laptop for use at school and at home, software as specified and a bag, at the beginning of the academic year.
