Introducing Years 5 & 6 at LHC

From 2025 Lourdes Hill College will offer tuition to Year 5 Primary School students for the first time in the College’s history. We understand how girls learn and recognise their need to belong, explore and strive.

As a leader in girls’ education, the College is proud to extend the opportunity for students to thrive in an environment developed just for them. We offer our students the learning and support programs they require to reach their full potential. Our approach helps students to become flexible thinkers and life-long learners.

We understand our students and their communities, and we tailor their learning using our experience and proven research. We teach the skills to step forward and meet every challenge and achieve success in this age of technology.

Our Year 5 and 6 classes will be designed to support the changes that occur in early adolescence. This is a critical stage in their growth, learning and development. We believe it is important to foster this growth in a supportive environment with dedicated and experienced staff.

The extension of our College to Year 5 offers our parents and caregivers greater choice and certainty regarding their child’s education and reflects the wishes of many in our community.

What will Lourdes Hill Years 5 and 6 offer?

Lourdes Hill College is an independent Catholic College of Good Samaritan Education for girls which inspires young women to create a better world by educating and empowering them to embrace a love of life and love of learning.

We pride ourselves on our inclusive all-girls contemporary Catholic learning community that enables each student to pursue their full potential.

Our students will have the opportunity to transition from Primary to Secondary School in a unique environment which offers a bridge between both worlds. Their transition will happen gradually, in a planned and developmentally appropriate way.

Our Junior School students will enjoy the safety and familiarity of their own classrooms and class teachers while enjoying learning with specialist staff and in the wonderful facilities. These include a theatre, sports centres, impressive science laboratories, creative arts facilities, home economics rooms, a laptop help desk and a state-of-the-art library and information services centre.

Students will engage in the College’s House and Pastoral Care Programs which focus on building a girl’s sense of belonging, confidence, and wellbeing. Students will be able to choose from a range of Co-Curricular activities and groups where they will meet girls from other year levels. This builds their sense of community and belonging as well as helps them explore new experiences and passions.

Lourdes Hill College enjoys the support of a team of specialist professionals to enhance learning opportunities. This team includes learning enrichment teachers, information technology staff and professional culture, service and sports tutors and coaches.

Why is Lourdes Hill College offering Year 5 and Year 6 tuition?

We are opening our College to Primary School students to provide our community with greater choice, opportunity and certainty regarding their child’s education.

  • Year 5 is becoming a major entry point for schools for both boys and girls.
  • We will be offering an exciting opportunity for primary students to prepare for their Secondary School journey.
  • Throughout Australia, there is a growing trend by Secondary Schools to incorporate traditional junior year levels.
  • Our Primary School students will experience a contemporary, inclusive and empowering approach to education in a holistic and safe learning environment.
  • Students of Year 5 and Year 6 will now have the opportunity to thrive under our College’s mission to educate and empower young women to embrace a love of life and learning and to enable them to pursue their full potential.

Where will the Year 5 and Year 6 classrooms be?

The existing two-storey J-Block (Santa Teresa Building) has been designated as the Junior School Centre.

Our Junior School Centre will receive an extensive refurbishment and will include a range of vibrant and high-energy learning and social places, featuring large, open, flexible and energy-efficient classrooms, supplemented with richly integrated technology, designed to support collaboration.

The new facilities will feature outdoor lunch and play spaces with renovated garden and seating areas on all sides. It is well positioned with easy access to the Stella Sports Centre and Good Samaritan Centre.

Located at the northern end of the campus immediately adjacent to Virginia Avenue, our Junior School Centre will also be adjacent to the new Master Planned entry to the College. This first phase of these important works, scheduled for completion in 2024, will enhance students’ and parents’ entry to the College, as well as supporting pick-up and drop-off options and further drive convenience and safety for our entire College community.

What Curriculum will be taught?

Programs of study for Years 5-6 will be based on the Australian Curriculum and supported by both the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) and the Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA).

All learning at Lourdes Hill College is supported by our Learning and Teaching Framework, our LHC Classroom Design Process and our Stella Wellbeing Framework.

What Co-Curricular Programs will be offered?

We recognise that the inclusion of quality Co-Curricular and Service opportunities is fundamental to the development of well-rounded students.

Lourdes Hill College Junior School students will have access to an extensive Co-Curricular program which allows students to develop skills and be part of a group.

The Co-Curricular Program includes Culture, Service and Sport:

  • Sport – Our Junior School students will have full access to onsite sports facilities and the opportunity to compete in representative school sport. Quality sporting opportunities are fundamental to providing team and leadership development, courage and confidence alongside known health and physical benefits.
  • Creative Arts – Co-Curricular cultural activities are an important part of the life of the College. Enrolled students can participate in programs offered by our School of Music and School of Art.
  • Service – Our Junior School students will enjoy whole cohort opportunities similar to those currently offered in the Middle School Social Justice Program.
How can I secure a place for Year 7 at LHC?

A further benefit of the introduction of Year 5 is that Parents and Caregivers will secure a Secondary School place upon enrolment in Year 5.

When a student joins us in Year 5, they will automatically be guaranteed a place in Year 7. We will also continue to maintain an intake at Year 7, ensuring Parent and Caregivers choice and opportunity remains supported.
