Our student leaders serve the Lourdes Hill College community through our strategic pillars: to Empower, to Transform, and to have a Benedictine Presence. Congratulations to our 57 Middle School Leaders and 64 Year 8 and 9 Junior School House Sisters for their service to the LHC community during Semester One.

Semester One Highlights

By Jocelyn Huang (Year 9)

Semester One was filled with activity across the Middle School. Our Middle School Leaders, Year 9 House Representatives, Co-curricular Leaders, and Junior School House Sisters have supported their peers through House initiatives and sport, service, and cultural groups.

Some highlights included the Year 8 and 9 Dance, the Middle School Social Justice Project's ‘Books for Building Brilliance’ (collecting new books and handmade bookmarks for donation), and the sale of 590 Krispy Kreme Donuts for State of Origin. Leaders also hosted Junior School House Sister lunches and crafted crocheted hearts for Galentine’s Day and Mother’s Day.

Students proudly represented the College at events including the ANZAC Day Memorial Service at ANZAC Square, four ANZAC Day marches, yLead Altitude Day, and the UQ Science and Engineering Challenge.

Our ongoing initiative, Magic in the Middle School and the Magic Cart, continues to encourage connection and friendships across year levels.

Why Leadership Matters

By Sienna Larking (Year 9)

Student leadership plays a vital role in shaping a positive and inclusive school culture. It builds confidence, responsibility, and key life skills such as communication and collaboration.

Leadership opportunities allow students to advocate for meaningful initiatives, foster connections across the student body and inspire others. These experiences prepare us for life beyond the classroom, helping shape confident, capable and compassionate young leaders.

A Reflection on yLead Altitude Day

By Charlotte Hiscock (Year 9)

Before attending yLead Altitude Day, I thought I understood leadership. I knew it meant helping others and setting a positive example. But the day deepened my perspective, I learned that leadership isn’t just about big moments or titles. It’s in the small, consistent choices we make how we treat others, how we bounce back from setbacks, and how we bring people with us rather than going it alone.

One guest speaker said, “Dreams are items that have a destination, and we are the creators of the beginning.” That made me realise leadership isn’t about waiting to feel ready, it’s about deciding to begin. Another said: “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
