Volunteering is a wonderful way to experience the Lourdes Hill College spirit. We are very grateful to our community of parent, family member and colleague volunteers who generously give of their time and talents to further enrich our community. 

To become a Volunteer please follow the below process:

All volunteers are required to hold a valid Blue Card. Volunteer Blue Cards are free under the Blue Card Services system. To obtain a Blue Card, please follow the process below. If you hold a valid Blue Card, proceed to step 5.

  1. Apply for a free Volunteer Blue Card
  2. When completing the Volunteer Blue Card application form, you will be required to link your application to an approved organisation. Please email hr@lhc.qld.edu.au with your name, date of birth, and Blue Card account number to arrange for your application to be linked with Lourdes Hill College.
  3. Lourdes Hill College will return your email with confirmation of the link being completed.
  4. Once you have received the link confirmation email from Lourdes Hill College, return to Blue Card Services website to complete the Volunteer Blue Card application form.
  5. Once the Volunteer Blue Card application has been approved by Blue Card Services, complete the Lourdes Hill College Volunteer Declaration Form HERE to register your interest in volunteering at Lourdes Hill College.

Volunteer Information

  • May be involved in providing support, guidance and supervision directly to students;
  • Perform all duties on a voluntary basis, of your own free will;
  • Are not an employee of Lourdes Hill College; and
  • Are not entitled to a salary or any other entitlements associated with employment.
  • Are required to have a Blue Card unless you are exempt in accordance with the requirements of the Public Safety Business Agency Working With Children Check. Exemptions include children under the age of 18 years old or a parent volunteer. 
  • Abide by our Code of Conduct for Volunteers which forms part of this agreement;
  • Participate in all relevant induction and training programs, including student protection;
  • Maintain safety standards as a priority in all activities and following all College safety procedures;
  • Use any property or equipment given to you in your role only for purpose of the job and return it to the College when you finish your volunteer role;
  • Let us know if you wish to change the nature of your contribution; and
  • Be open and honest in your dealings with us and let us know if we can improve our volunteer program and the support that you receive.
  • Inform the College if you are a restricted person for the purposes of obtaining a Blue Card. A restricted person has been issued with a negative notice, has a suspended blue or exemption card, is a disqualified person, has been charged with a disqualifying offence that has not been finalised, or is subject to an adverse interstate Working with Children Check decision that is in effect.
  • Directly report any knowledge or suspicion of harm against a child to a Student Protection Officer.
  • Follow the College’s visitor procedures and sign in and out at Reception on all occasions.
  • Work unsupervised with students;
  • Perform duties they do not have the skills to undertake;
  • Be involved in toileting students or assisting with change rooms/sick rooms;
  • Encourage affection from or dependency in students (e.g. giving presents, having intimate physical contact or intimate personal contact through written or electronic means such as email, letters, telephone, text messages, social media sites or chatrooms); or
  • Display bullying or intimidating behaviours towards students.

All children and young people who come to Lourdes Hill College have a right to feel and be safe. We are committed to providing a child safe and child friendly environment, where children and young people are safe and feel safe, and can actively participate in decisions that affect their lives.

We have zero tolerance for abuse and other harm and are committed to acting in students’ best interests and keeping them safe from harm.

The College regards its child safe responsibilities with the utmost importance and is committed to providing the necessary resources to maintain a child safe culture and ensure compliance with all relevant child protection laws and regulations.

Each member of the College community has a responsibility to understand the important and specific role that they play individually and collectively to ensure that the wellbeing and safety of all students is at the forefront of all that they do and every decision that they make.
