LHC 2025 – Navigating the New School Year
The start of the school year marks an exciting new chapter of learning and growth for your daughters. This period often brings a mix of emotions, ranging from confidence and excitement to nervousness and concern about the changes ahead. Every student at Lourdes Hill College is undergoing a transition, whether it’s starting at a new school, moving into Junior, Middle, or Senior School, or advancing to a new grade level. While the familiar routines and expectations at LHC provide comfort, new teachers, classmates, and classrooms bring an element of the unknown, which can be both thrilling and daunting. To help your daughters navigate this transition smoothly:
Practise school routines at least a week before school starts (adjust bed and wake-up times, reduce screen time, familiarise them with public transport routes, and plan lunch items together).
Review uniform and grooming expectations – including jewellery, makeup, fake tan, nail polish/enhancements, and eyelash enhancements. Meeting College expectations on Day 1 helps students feel prepared and confident.
Encourage organisation by helping your daughter prepare her school supplies and set up a home study area ahead of the first day.
Speak positively about school, focusing on routines and expectations that students can anticipate and manage.
Remind your daughter of her resilience and persistence – she has successfully navigated school transitions before and will do so again.
Provide gentle guidance to help her manage any fears, focusing on the reality of the situation rather than exaggerated worries.
Set realistic and achievable goals to help her feel motivated for the year ahead.
Reach out to your daughter’s House Pastoral Leader for support with home and school strategies to ensure a positive start to the year (email addresses below).
Supporting a Smooth Transition At Lourdes Hill College, we have many structures and processes in place to ensure a positive transition into the new school year:
Connection Time: Our Orientation Program includes small and large group activities designed to build relationships within Home Groups and House Groups.
Whole School and House Assembly: A welcome to the school year, introduction of key staff, and a presentation of the LHC vision for 2025.
House Liturgy: Time for spiritual reflection and growth within the community of peers.
Guest Speaker: Years 5, 6, and 7 will hear from Rebecca Sparrow, who will share tips on navigating the transition to LHC and building friendships and connections.
Clarity of College Expectations: Home Group and House Group sessions will review College and classroom expectations to provide clarity and consistency.
Practising Routines: Home Group time will focus on routines such as using lockers, diaries, timetables, moving between classes, and handling uniform slips. Older students and Home Group teachers will assist younger students. Encourage your daughter to ask questions to build her confidence with these processes.
School Photos: Scheduled during the first three days of the school year. Students must wear the correct uniform, including appropriate jewellery, and no makeup, eyelash extensions, or nail polish/enhancements. Students with inappropriate uniform items will be asked to remove them or reschedule their photo for later in the term.
Co-Curricular Information and Sign-Up: Participation in co-curricular activities is vital for building friendships and broadening skills and experiences.
Laptop Inductions: New students and cohorts will receive laptop inductions to ensure they are comfortable using this technology.
Stella Wellbeing Program: Our evidence-based, bespoke wellbeing curriculum is taught regularly to each year level. The Term 1 program focuses on relationship building and is tailored to be age appropriate.
We are so looking forward to the start of the school year and supporting your daughters through this transition. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your daughter’s House Pastoral Leader. We look forward to a successful and enriching school year ahead!
