At Lourdes Hill College, service is a cornerstone of our Catholic education, inspired by the Good Samaritan Benedictine tradition. Through meaningful service activities, students engage with their communities, learn compassion, and develop a commitment to justice, love, and leadership.

Junior School

Junior School students in Years 5 and 6 are introduced to service through two dedicated groups:

  • SPARCLES: The Junior School branch of the Students Protecting and Restoring Creation (SPARC) group, focusing on sustainability and environmental stewardship.
  • Mini Vinnies: An introduction to the St Vincent de Paul ethos, promoting initiatives like the Winter and Christmas Appeals to support families in need.

These groups meet fortnightly during lunchtimes, encouraging students to explore important causes and take action within their local and global communities.

Middle School

Middle School students can join service groups that align with their interests, raising awareness of critical issues and supporting diverse causes:

  • SPARC: Focuses on sustainability and animal welfare.
  • Benenson Society: Raises awareness about human rights issues, such as homelessness, poverty, and domestic violence.
  • HOPe (Hospitality Outreach Program): Assists schools supporting asylum seekers and organises cultural exchange activities.
  • L’Arche: Builds understanding and connection with people living with intellectual disabilities.
  • Mind Over Matter: Promotes mental health awareness and wellbeing.
  • STAR (Santa Teresa and Reconciliation): Explores Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues and supports reconciliation efforts.
  • St Vincent de Paul: Runs initiatives like the Winter and Christmas Appeals to support local families.

These groups meet fortnightly, offering Middle School students opportunities to lead and contribute to meaningful change.

Senior School

Senior School students in Years 10–12 engage in service through both Service Groups and the Outreach Program, which puts faith into action by supporting vulnerable populations:

Outreach Partners:

  • Coffee Brigade: Preparing sandwiches for distribution to people experiencing homelessness.
  • Meals on Wheels: Supporting the local community by raising awareness of this vital service.
  • Eat Up Australia: Preparing sandwiches for children in need.
  • Micah Projects: Packing toiletry bags and grocery hampers for people in crisis.
  • Sunday Roast at Salvation Army: Serving hot meals to individuals facing hardship.
  • Rosies – Friends on the Street: Engaging in conversations and sharing warm drinks with those living on the streets.
  • St Cecilia’s Music Outreach: Performing music for residents at Regis Aged Care.

Through service groups and outreach initiatives, Senior School students live out the Good Samaritan Benedictine values of compassion, community, and justice while gaining valuable experiences that prepare them for life beyond Lourdes Hill College.
