The Catholic Church's year is beautifully woven into different liturgical seasons - each offering a opportunity for reflection, celebration, and spiritual growth.
October is traditionally dedicated to the Rosary, a powerful prayer that invites us to journey through key moments known as mysteries, in the lives of Jesus and Mary. These mysteries are grouped in four themes - Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, and Luminous. Each set prayed helps individuals focus on different aspects of faith and deepen their connection with God.
November is a time of remembrance and gratitude. The month begins with All Saints Day on November 1, honouring the lives of the saints, followed by All Souls Day on November 2, which lovingly commemorates all who have passed away. As the liturgical year draws to a close, the Church turns its attention to those who have gone before, offering prayers of hope and thanksgiving, and looking forward to the promise of eternal life.
The new liturgical year begins with Advent in December. Advent is a four-week period of preparation for Christmas that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ and reflects on His promised return. Starting near the end of November and leading up to December 25, Advent is a time to renew hope, strengthen faith, and embrace the joy of the season with loved ones.
Throughout these months, prayer remains a central practice. In the Catholic tradition, prayer can be silent or spoken, personal or shared. It is a way to spend time with God to seek guidance, express gratitude, ask for help or forgiveness, or simply being present in faith.
Each Tuesday morning, the LHC community is warmly invited to gather for Prayer of the Church, and every Thursday morning, Mass is celebrated at the College, with all welcome to attend. The Chapel will also be open at first lunch break until the end of this term for students and staff to call in for some quiet prayer and reflection.
