Supporting safe and positive online experiences these holidays

As we come to the end of another busy and rewarding term, we thank you for your ongoing partnership in supporting our students.

With more free time during the holidays, many students will spend additional time online connecting with friends, gaming, and exploring digital content. This provides an opportunity to reinforce safe, respectful and balanced online habits at home.

Below are some simple tips to help support your daughter’s wellbeing and safety in the digital space.

Keeping communication open

We encourage families to:

  • Talk regularly about online experiences in a calm and supportive way
  • Show interest in the apps, games and platforms your child enjoys
  • Remind students they can always seek help from a trusted adult if something doesn’t feel right

Protecting privacy and personal information

  • Encourage students to keep personal information private (such as full name, school, address, or phone number)
  • Review privacy settings together on apps and social media platforms
  • Use strong, unique passwords and enable multi-factor authentication where possible

Understanding apps, games and social spaces

  • Be aware of the platforms your child is using, including chat or messaging features
  • Check age ratings and in-app purchase settings
  • Consider keeping shared family awareness of new or emerging apps

Encouraging safe choices online

  • Remind students to pause before clicking links or downloading content
  • Be cautious of “too good to be true” offers, competitions, or messages
  • Reinforce that it’s always okay to ask before responding or sharing

Supporting balance and wellbeing

  • Establish agreed screen time routines that include breaks
  • Encourage time for rest, outdoor activity and family connection
  • Consider device-free times or spaces, particularly overnight

If something goes wrong

If a concern arises:

  • Reassure your child and keep communication supportive
  • Take screenshots if needed
  • Block and report inappropriate content or behaviour
  • Please feel welcome to reach out to the College if additional support is needed
