Lourdes Hill College has celebrated 15 years of Good Samaritan Education by launching a new College community engagement and fundraising initiative.

On the last day of Term 3, the College hosted a whole-school celebration called ‘Good Sams Day’ which supported the ministries of the Good Samaritan Foundation. Their work provides education, meals, refuge and hope to vulnerable communities across Australia and the Asia-Pacific.

As Good Samaritan Education (GSE) marks 15 years, we celebrate the deep sense of community, relationships and shared mission that continues to shape our story. Responsible for ten incorporated schools across Australia, GSE shares a vision of Catholic education that gives life to the love, compassion and justice of the universal Christ through learning communities that have authentic connection with God and each other, modelled through the Parable of the Good Samaritan. Grounded in the educational ministry of the Sisters of the Good Samaritan, we are impelled by the Good Samaritan Benedictine tradition that, through Christ, continues to guide and inspire us.

Our Good Sams Day celebrations kicked off with our Good Samaritan Celebration Mass, celebrated by Fr Peter Wieneke OSA, where each student and staff received a specially blessed anniversary pin. We were grateful to be joined by special guests Sonya Mears, Executive Director of the Good Sams Foundation, Dr Joanne Hack, Executive Director of Good Samaritan Education and our Sisters of the Good Samaritan.

Following Mass, the College grounds came alive with the Good Sams Day Carnival which raised an incredible $15,000 for the Good Samaritan Foundation.

Each Home Group spent Term 3 designing, organising and preparing fundraising stalls, games and food experiences across the College campus, using a wristband system for payment. Stalls featured homemade sausage rolls, an inflatable obstacle course, a nail salon, pancakes, a photo booth, disco, sausage sizzle, cornhole and many more.

Good Sams Day concluded with our Battle of the Bands and Talent Show in the GSC, providing a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the creativity and talents of our students.

The College is grateful to all students and staff for their efforts in making Good Sams Day such a success and a treasured tradition in the College calendar.
