A Celebration of Connection, Creativity & Compassion

This term has been packed with exciting opportunities for Middle School students to connect, create, and contribute to our middle school community. Here’s a look at some of the highlights!

Magic in the Middle School

Magic in the Middle School continues to be a lunchtime favourite! Held every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, it’s a space where students come together to enjoy fun activities, make new friends, and build a stronger sense of belonging. Whether you're playing games or just chatting, there's always something magical happening.

Minecraft Madness

Term 3, saw the launch of two thrilling Minecraft competitions. The first challenged students to design the most sustainable house, while the second celebrated spring with colourful seasonal builds. Teams from across the Middle School collaborated, shared ideas, and showcased their creativity. Winners received tuckshop vouchers or lollies, but the real prize was the joy of building together!

Bullying No Way Day

Our Middle School Leaders led the school community for ‘Bullying. No Way! Day’, encouraging kindness and respect through meaningful activities. From hair braiding to shared lunches between Year 7 & 11 and Year 8 & 12 Big and Little Sisters, the day reminded us all of the power of standing together. It was a beautiful example of leadership and community spirit. These initiatives not only encouraged participation but also empower younger students to feel confident in speaking up and supporting one another.

Compass Card Recognition

The new Compass Card initiative is helping us celebrate the positive behaviour of students that makes LHC special. Whether it’s helping a teacher or supporting a friend, students are being recognised for living out our Benedictine values. It’s been inspiring to see the first completed cards handed in, proof that small actions make a big impact!

St Mary MacKillop Feast Day

Attending the St Mary MacKillop Feast Day Mass was a moving experience for some of our Middle School Leaders. As representatives of LHC, they reflected on St Mary MacKillop’s legacy of compassion, faith, and service. Her words, “Never see a need without doing something about it”, continue to inspire us to make a difference in our school and beyond.

Villanova Social Justice Forum – Caring for Creation

Year 9 Middle School leaders and Middle School social justice leaders joined the M4CM Social Justice Forum at Villanova College to explore local environmental issues. Through discussion and collaboration, they gained new perspectives and brainstormed practical ways to care for our planet. It was a powerful reminder of how student voice can shape a better future.

Social Justice Outreach High Tea

The Outreach High Tea brought our community together in support of Emmanuel City Mission, Rosie’s Friends on the Street, and the Coffee Brigade. LHC students volunteered their time, embodying the Benedictine values of hospitality and service. Middle school students attended the high tea and learned how meaningful it is to be present for those in need.

Eat Up Sandwich Making

Year 9 students rolled up their sleeves with Eat Up Australia to make sandwiches for children in need. From makers to packagers to runners, every role mattered. It was a hands-on way to learn about teamwork and the importance of helping others. No child should go hungry at school.

LHC Social Justice Forum – Sustainable Fashion

With over 100 participants from 11 schools, the LHC Social Justice Forum was a huge success! Louise Hauser’s talk on sustainable fashion sparked great conversations. Students got creative repurposing garments and enjoyed a fun trivia session. The Swap Shop was a hit, proving that sustainability can be stylish! Middle school leaders assisted with this program.

Year 7 Villanova Social

Each year Villanova and LHC take turns hosting a Year 7 Social afternoon. This year we headed to Villa where our Year 7 students were welcomed with an afternoon tea before breaking out in different groups to play a range of games and try their memory skills at trivia. It was great to see the girls catch up with some friends as well as form new connections in a fun environment.

Year 8 St Laurence’s Social

The LHC and St Laurence’s social is always a well-attended event. Year 8 students get to participate in a jam-packed afternoon of activities, followed by a sausage sizzle and a mini disco. Playing M&M Conversation Cards, Ping Pong Panic and trivia quizzes, it is fantastic to see our girls interact confidently with the boys sharing lots of fun and laughter.

Leading with Heart

Our Middle School Leaders have been doing an incredible job across the Middle school, Sport, Service, Culture, and House activities. Year 9 House Reps and House Sisters have stepped up, showing initiative and care in their roles. Their leadership is helping shape a vibrant and inclusive Middle School culture. Thank you to Mrs McClure, Mrs Young and Mrs Caulfield for all their kindness, support, mentoring and leadership of the Middle School.
