One of the most exciting and engaging events on the school calendar this year was our celebration of National Science Week. Across the campus, classrooms came alive with activity as students and staff embraced the theme: “Decoding the Universe – Exploring the Unknown with Nature’s Hidden Language.”
The Science Department transformed ordinary lessons into hands-on, curiosity-driven experiences. Lava lamp workshops captivated younger students, while science trivia quizzes tested the knowledge of even the most seasoned science buffs. One of the standout activities was the ethanol rocket launches in the GSC, where students had the chance to design and blast off their own creations—an experience that combined chemistry, physics, and a lot of fun.
Our Year 11 UQ Science Ambassadors took the lead in running a creative writing competition that invited all students to explore the wonders of space through storytelling. Whether it was a poem, short story, non-fiction article, or comic, students rose to the challenge, and the entries reflected a deep fascination with the mysteries of the cosmos. Prizes were awarded for creativity and originality, making it a highlight for many.
To top off an already stellar week, students were treated to a cool surprise—liquid nitrogen ice cream served in Seiwa Court. The dramatic clouds of vapor and the delicious frozen treat brought the school together in celebration of science in the most memorable way.
A fantastic week was had by both students and staff alike, and we are already looking forward to the excitement of National Science Week in 2026!
